5 hour bus ride from Warsaw to Krakow...definitely not the recommended mode of transportation. On the way back, we took a flight. The villages and towns along the way look typical European. Most of the houses are made of stone.
Before the war, 70,000 of the 300,000 inhabitants of Krakow were Jews. About 65,000 of them were murdered.
It had a Hebrew high school, a commercial school (2000 students), Mizrahi school, Yeshiva (Agudat Israel), Jewish theater, Jewish hospital, library, its own newspapers (Woche and Nowy Dziennik) and many other institutions:
